AI & IQ Radiant Glass & VISS

The best AI control systems monitor and ensure your building’s HVAC system is operating at optimal levels and can eliminate unnecessary and costly human inspections as well as optimizing maintenance scheduling. An AI system works with the assets you have. It operates and maximizes efficiencies within the constraints of your building envelope. However in cold periods, most heat losses in buildings is through the inefficiencies of your window systems.

AI can control windows by adjusting automated screening systems as well as adjusting electrochromic glass (a.k.a. smart glass or dynamic glass). It is an electronically tintable glass used for windows, skylights, facades and curtain walls. Electrochromic glass can also be directly controlled by AI,

Now enter IQ Radiant Heating Glass into the equation. IQ Radiant Glass can make every individual pane of glass a thermal comfort zone. Radiant heating glass allows the AI controlled HVAC system to work at lower ambient heating levels. It does this by adjusting the interior pane of glass temperature to break the cold flow of traditional glass.

Radiant heating systems provide the opportunity to provide comfort at lower

ambient air temperatures. As explained by Watson & Chapman, the presence of a radiant field, or MRT, characteristic of all radiant systems, normally results in

comfort at a 4°F to 6°F lower dry-bulb air temperature than if a convection heating system was used. A 1°F air temperature reduction results in a 3% energy reduction. It was highlighted that a 12 to 18% energy reduction is a minimum expectation for a radiant heating system in comparison to a convective

system providing equivalent comfort. Testing by Hydro Quebec and Kansas State University demonstrated savings from 25% up to 50%.

Additional testing in European laboratories found 32 to 38 % less power required with IQ Radiant Glass compared to a traditional double pane unit & radiator to obtain the same resulting temperature of 69.8 °F (21 °C).

Counter intuitively. the radiant heating glass IGU is 95% efficient at returning the generated heat into the room with minimal losses to the exterior.

For reasons of strength and longevity we can add the Jansen Steel VISS Passive House window/door/facade system.

The Jansen VISS Passive House window/facade system is the first line of defense against unwanted heat in the summer and heat losses in the winter. The Jansen Passive House system can reduce the work load of your existing HVAC systems. AI uses self-adaptive, predictive technology to monitor your HVAC system and pick up on inefficiencies. It can make existing systems more efficient.

IQ Radiant Glass, depending on configuration, can provide a game changing 95% efficiency in providing localized heat at any individual window in the building system as and when needed.

All of the above stated components can be utilized and combined to meet NET Zero Energy goals for existing, legacy and new construction. The IQ Radiant Heating Glass component can add thermal comfort that needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

Our recommendation is that demonstration projects by building class be conducted to prove the total systems approach.
