NEW YORK CITY
A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVANCED GLAZING STRATEGIES
Summary
New York City’s Local Law 97 is changing the economics of building ownership and modernization. Many buildings over 25,000 square feet are subject to carbon-emissions limits, with financial penalties for exceeding those limits and substantially more stringent requirements beginning in 2030.
At the same time, New York is experiencing significant façade renewal, building electrification and office-to-residential conversion. Together, these forces create an opportunity to rethink the role of architectural glass.
IQ Radiant Glass® proposes a different approach: when a façade is being replaced or substantially upgraded, do not simply replace passive glass with better passive glass.
Electrically heated glazing can become part of the building’s thermal and energy strategy—providing radiant perimeter comfort, condensation control, integration with heat pumps and intelligent building controls, and the potential to reduce conventional perimeter heating requirements.
For New York buildings, there is an additional consideration: floor space has exceptional economic value. Reducing bulky perimeter mechanical systems, where engineering conditions permit, can improve both the usability and value of space immediately adjacent to the façade.
IQ Radiant Glass brings UL-listed technology, proven project experience and exceptional large-format glazing capability to this opportunity.
Local Law 97 provides the economic incentive to improve building performance. IQ Radiant Glass provides an opportunity to make the façade part of the solution.
